The rolling diaphragm is shaped like a top hat in the free state. It is made of rubber with silk cloth. The middle hole on the top is used for installing the valve stem. Compared with the rubber corrugated diaphragm used in regulating valves, the rolling diaphragm has a higher pressure resistance. Almost all the pressure load of the rolling diaphragm is supported by the piston, and only a small part of the liquid pressure or gas pressure is supported by the narrow area of the diaphragm, so the rolling diaphragm can obtain greater pressure bearing capacity and higher thrust.

For the present, common materials for rolling diaphragm are: natural rubber (NR), nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), the performance of the two materials can meet the needs of most industrial environments. In special industrial environments (high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance) could use EPDM, fluorine rubber (FKM), neoprene rubber (CR) for production, but the cost is relatively high.
